Connecting the Dots: Novel Applications of Network Analysis

The network approach to psychopathology suggests that mental health disorders exist as complex systems of mutually interacting, often reinforcing symptoms, rather than as distinct ‘disease-like’ entities. This event will consist of a number of talks and discussion sessions that will focus on novel applications of network analysis to answering questions about comorbidity in health. Speakers include Dr Angelique Cramer (Tilburg University), Prof Ian Goodyer (University of Cambridge), Prof Jamie Murphy (Ulster University), Dr Valerie Kuan Po Ai (UCL), Dr Eoin McElroy (UCL), and Dr Praveetha Patalay (UCL). We will be discussing topics such as:

i) Utility of the approach for understanding health

ii) What can network science tell us about development of mental health problems?

iii) Symptom networks and treatment response

iv) Does network connectivity vary as a function of ill-health?

No previous experience with network analysis is necessary; anyone with an interest in these topics is welcome.
