In common with most high income countries, England has seen declining levels of physical activity since the 1960s as a consequence of economic, social and cultural changes. National physical activity for health guidelines were published by the UK Chief Medical Officers in 2011 (and are currently being reviewed), including a recommendation for 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity per week for adults[i]. Yet national levels of physical activity remain static with 33% of the population failing to achieve the level of activity recommended for good health.
This #AllOurHealth tweetchat aims to explore how we can turn the tide of physical inactivity and work together to implement the evidence. Together we will explore key questions below:
Why is physical activity good for health?
What is the evidence base?
What are the key public health challenges in engaging those most inactive?
What are the key public health interventions and are they evidence based?
How can we make the biggest impact and implement national guidance and evidence?
How can we do this at scale? Who do we need to work with to achieve this?
